2. E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute of the NAS of Ukraine

The cooperation of the Department of Biomedical Engineering with the Department of Welding and Related Technologies in Medicine and Ecology No. 017 within the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute of the NAS of Ukraine is focused on research and development of problems of high-frequency electric welding of biological tissues; application of the theory of contact welding of metals to welding of living tissues; formation of an electric welded joint of the stomach and small intestine; application of simulation models of welding of biological tissues for training students.

Work on electric welding of living soft tissues is carried out at the E.O. Paton since 1992. During this time, power sources, tools, automatic control algorithms and technologies for welding blood vessels, nerves, intestines, fallopian tubes, stomach, lungs, liver, skin have been developed. A large amount of material has been accumulated and many studies have been conducted on contact welding of metals. These methods, with assumptions, are used to study the welding of living tissues.
